When to choose it

The beam for when timber will not work

Every stove manufacturer sets safe distances between the appliance and anything combustible above or around it, and a solid oak beam has to respect them. In plenty of chambers that is no problem, but in others, a low opening, a tall stove, a design that wants the beam tight over the fire, timber simply cannot go where the eye wants it. That is the Inglebeam's job: cast in the UK from real oak originals, completely fireproof, and able to sit where no timber beam could.

It has quietly become the standard answer for media walls too, where an electric fire or a stove sits inside a built wall and a floating oak-look beam finishes the design. And because it is cast, not grown, it never warps, twists or opens a shake in the heat, which a real beam over a working stove sometimes will. If the beam in your design can safely sit at timber distances, our solid oak beams are the romantic choice. If it cannot, this is the beam that keeps the look without the compromise, framed by the chamber finish of your choosing.

Common questions

The Inglebeam, answered plainly

Can an Inglebeam sit directly above the stove?

It can sit far closer than any timber beam, because it is completely non-combustible. It usually gives far more design flexibility, but the final position always follows the stove manufacturer instructions and the Inglebeam fitting guidelines, which is exactly what we work out on the home survey.

Does the Inglebeam actually look like real oak?

Yes, and this surprises people. Each beam is cast from real oak originals, so the shakes, knots, holes and end grain all come through. Once it is fitted and the room is finished, guests do not spot it. The detail photo on this page is the honest evidence.

What sizes does the Inglebeam come in?

Standard widths of 1220mm, 1372mm and 1524mm cover most chambers, and special sizes are made to order for wider openings. It also comes as a beam only or with matching leg uprights for a full surround look.

Can I paint or change the finish of an Inglebeam?

It arrives finished, in light, medium or dark oak or a stone effect, and the finish is guaranteed consistent, one of its advantages over natural timber. We would not paint over the oak-effect finishes, so choose the tone against our samples on the survey rather than planning to adjust it later.

Is an Inglebeam cheaper than a real oak beam?

Prices vary with the size and finish of each, so if you are undecided we will happily quote both ways. The honest answer is that the choice is rarely about price. It is about position: where the beam can sit at a safe timber clearance, solid oak is wonderful, and where the design wants the beam close to the stove, the Inglebeam is the answer. Both are quoted exactly after the free home survey.
