Is it right for you?

Who the British Fires New Forest 870 Inset Electric Fire suits best

The New Forest 870 is the compact landscape model: enough width to feel like a proper fire, small enough for a modest wall or an existing fireplace opening. It suits snug media walls, chimney breast conversions and rooms where the 1200 would crowd the furniture. From this size up the range also offers two and three sided formats, so the 870 can wrap a corner.

From the survey

Installation notes for the British Fires New Forest 870 Inset Electric Fire

It wants a 300mm recess, so unlike the 650 it is usually a stud-wall build or a deepened breast rather than a straight slot-in, which we plan and make good as one job. One, two or three sided installation is chosen at order and changes the framing of the build, so the decision comes before the joinery, not after.

An honest steer

How it compares with similar models

Below it, the square 650 suits vertical spaces and shallower recesses. Above it, the 1200 is the step up when the wall has the width. The 870 is the smallest of the widescreen formats, and the cheapest way into the two and three sided looks that make British Fires installations so striking.

Fitting it locally

Fitting the British Fires New Forest 870 Inset Electric Fire in Yorkshire homes

A strong fit for the compact media walls we build in terraced and semi-detached living rooms across Leeds, Wakefield and York, where the wall is real but not vast. Electric, so the wall can sit anywhere in the room with no flue to route.

Common questions

British Fires New Forest 870 Inset Electric Fire FAQs

Can the New Forest 870 be seen from two sides?

Yes. From the 870 upward the New Forest range offers one, two or three sided formats, so the fire can wrap a corner or sit in a peninsula wall. The format is chosen at order because it changes the build.

What recess does the 870 need?

A minimum of 300mm, so it is normally built into a stud wall or a deepened chimney breast. We design the build, the fused spur and the making good as one piece of work.

Is the 870 big enough for a media wall?

For a compact media wall, yes. Under a TV up to around 43 inches it keeps the proportions right. For bigger screens we would talk you up to the 1200 or 1600.

How much heat does the New Forest 870 give?

A 1.5kW heater, the same across the whole New Forest range, designed to warm the room gently while the LED flame picture does the visual work, with or without heat.
