Most popular
Antique Leather Matt Black Granite
Antique Leather Matt Black Granite is one of our most popular and practical choices for fireplace hearths, chamber bases and border slips. Manufactured from premium natural granite, it features a distinctive textured "leather" finish that combines the durability of polished granite with a softer, low-sheen appearance, perfectly complementing both traditional and contemporary fireplace designs.
The subtly textured surface enhances the natural character of the stone while helping to disguise fingerprints, dust and the marks left by ash, soot and anthracite during refuelling. Unlike highly polished finishes, Antique Leather granite maintains its appearance exceptionally well, making it an ideal choice for wood-burning stoves, multi-fuel stoves and open fires where day-to-day practicality is just as important as style.
Granite is one of the hardest natural stones available, offering outstanding resistance to heat, scratches and general wear. It is easy to maintain, requiring only a simple wipe with a damp cloth to keep it looking its best, making it perfectly suited to the demands of everyday family life.
At Carl Finnell, every Antique Leather Matt Black Granite hearth, chamber base and border slip is individually cut to size to suit your fireplace and room layout. Whether you require a traditional flush hearth, a boxed and lipped design, or a bespoke shape to accommodate existing flooring or carpet recesses, each piece is precision manufactured to create a seamless, beautifully finished installation.
Combining timeless elegance with exceptional durability, Antique Leather Matt Black Granite is the perfect finishing touch for any fireplace, offering a luxurious appearance together with the strength and practicality required to provide many years of reliable service.
Profiles
Chamber hearth profiles
The profile of your chamber hearth plays an important role in the overall appearance of your fireplace. Whether you prefer a sleek contemporary finish or a more substantial traditional look, we offer a range of profile options to suit your flooring and design preferences.
Flat
A flat hearth provides a clean, minimalist appearance that complements both contemporary and traditional fireplaces. It sits neatly on the floor and is particularly well suited to timber, stone and tiled flooring. It can also be installed with carpet, creating a simple, understated finish.
Boxed & Lipped
The boxed and lipped profile is one of our most popular options, particularly where carpet is fitted. The projecting lip neatly conceals the cut edge of the carpet, creating a more refined and professional finish. It also adds depth and definition to the hearth, making it a practical and attractive choice for many installations.
Boxed Flush
The boxed flush profile offers a more substantial appearance, giving the hearth greater visual presence and creating the impression of a solid stone slab. Although less common in modern installations, it remains an excellent choice for both timber and tiled floors and can also be used with carpet. This profile subtly raises the chamber or fireplace, adding depth and creating a strong architectural focal point within the room.
We also offer a range of curved and five-sided hearths, ideal for installations where space is limited or a softer, more contemporary design is preferred. These space-saving hearths are perfect for compact rooms and narrow walkways, providing a practical yet stylish solution without compromising on safety or appearance. Available in a selection of premium materials and finishes, each hearth is precision manufactured to ensure a perfect fit.
Freestanding stoves
Freestanding stove hearths
Our range of standard-shaped hearths provides the perfect solution for most freestanding stove installations, with a choice of sizes, profiles and premium materials to suit both traditional and contemporary homes. For more challenging installations, such as angled walls, bay windows, inglenooks or irregular chimney breasts, we also offer a complete made-to-measure design and cutting service. Every bespoke hearth is professionally drawn, precision cut and expertly finished to ensure a perfect fit and a truly individual installation.
Bespoke
Made to measure
Made to Measure: The drawing and photograph below illustrate a bespoke made-to-measure hearth, designed specifically for a property where a standard shaped hearth simply would not fit. Following a detailed site survey, the hearth was first produced as a technical drawing before being precision cut and shaped to follow the contours of the corner, creating a perfect fit around the corner, window / door reveal and adjacent walls.
Every bespoke hearth is individually manufactured to suit your room, flooring and fireplace design. Whether you require a simple rectangular hearth, a boxed and lipped profile, or a complex shape to accommodate alcoves, bay windows, corners or existing flooring, we can create a solution that combines practicality with exceptional craftsmanship. The result is a beautifully finished hearth that looks as though it has always been part of your home.

Common questions
Stone and granite hearths, answered plainly
Which hearth material is most practical for a wood burning stove?
Antique Leather matt black granite is our most popular choice because the textured, low-sheen finish hides fingerprints, dust and the marks from ash and soot, and granite shrugs off heat and scratches. Honed and polished granite, limestone, sandstone and gritstone are all available, and some natural stones are sealed when used with a woodburning or multifuel stove.
Do you cut hearths to size?
Yes. Every hearth is individually cut to suit your fireplace and room layout, whether you want a traditional flush hearth, a boxed and lipped profile, or a bespoke shape to work around flooring, carpet recesses, corners or bay windows.
What is the difference between flat, boxed and lipped, and boxed flush?
A flat hearth sits neatly on the floor for a clean minimalist look. Boxed and lipped adds a projecting lip that neatly conceals a cut carpet edge and adds depth. Boxed flush gives the impression of a solid stone slab and a stronger architectural presence.
Can you make a hearth for an awkward corner or bay?
Yes. For angled walls, bay windows, inglenooks or irregular chimney breasts we offer a full made-to-measure service. After a site survey the hearth is produced as a technical drawing, then precision cut and shaped to follow the contours for a perfect fit.
