Tiled Hearths

At Carl Finnell, we have been designing and installing tiled hearths for many years. They were extremely popular when I first became an apprentice in the late 1980s, before falling out of fashion for a number of years. Over the past seven to eight years, however, they have made a strong comeback, becoming a popular choice for both traditional and contemporary homes.

With the vast range of colours, patterns and styles now available, my advice to anyone considering a tiled hearth is to think carefully about the room as a whole. A hearth should complement your interior design rather than dominate it, so choosing a pattern and colour that works with your flooring, furniture and décor will ensure it remains a timeless feature for many years to come.

We offer a carefully selected range of our most popular tiled hearth designs, all of which can be manufactured to your required size. A made-to-measure hearth is ideal for covering existing carpet or flooring cut-outs, providing a neat, professional finish without the need for additional alterations.

Below is a traditional cast iron fireplace with a non-combustible Glasroc Firecase chamber, finished in a smooth paintable surface ready to complement any interior décor. The installation also features a wood-burning stove set on a bespoke, made-to-measure tiled hearth, designed to fit the fireplace perfectly. The geometric black and white Victorian-style tiles create a timeless focal point, demonstrating how a custom tiled hearth can add both character and individuality to a fireplace while providing a durable and practical finish.

Below is a Norstar White tiled hearth, manufactured to the client's exact dimensions for a bespoke fireplace installation near Driffield, East Yorkshire. Designed to fit the room perfectly, the made-to-measure hearth provides a clean, contemporary finish while covering the existing floor opening with precision. The subtle pattern and soft white tones create a bright, elegant focal point, demonstrating how a custom tiled hearth can be tailored to suit both the fireplace and the surrounding interior.

The next installation features a slate chamber and border, creating a striking frame around the fireplace opening, with a made-to-measure tiled hearth seamlessly recessed into the herringbone timber flooring for a clean, flush finish. This bespoke design blends beautifully with the surrounding floor while providing a durable and practical hearth. Completing the installation is a Dik Geurts Ivar 5 wood-burning stove, combining contemporary styling with high efficiency to create an elegant and welcoming focal point.
