Who the Fire FX Atlas 1 Wood Burning Stove suits best

The Atlas 1 is the entry point to the cylindrical Atlas family: a tall, freestanding column of a stove that turns the fire into a piece of furniture. It suits open-plan spaces, extensions and barn conversions where the stove stands in the room rather than in a chamber, and its concealed log storage keeps the base useful as well as handsome.

At 5kW nominal it is sized for everyday living spaces, so you get the statement look without over-heating the room.

From the survey

Installation notes for the Fire FX Atlas 1 Wood Burning Stove

The Atlas range takes a 150mm flue rather than the more common 125mm, which we allow for when specifying the liner or twin-wall system. Most Atlas installations we plan are freestanding on a twin-wall flue, where the tall body and visible flue become part of the design. It needs only a 12mm hearth, and the integrated external air connection suits airtight builds.

An honest steer

How it compares with similar models

Within the family, the Atlas 1 has a front-only window, the Atlas 2 adds panoramic side glass for a 180 degree view and a touch more output, and the Atlas 3 stretches the glass line taller again for the full architectural effect. Each step adds height and presence, and a little to the appliance price. If the fire will be seen from several directions in an open-plan room, step up to the 2 or 3.

Fitting it locally

Fitting the Fire FX Atlas 1 Wood Burning Stove in Yorkshire homes

DEFRA exempt and Ecodesign compliant, so smoke control areas are no barrier. We most often propose the Atlas family for the barn conversions and open-plan renovations of the corridor, where a freestanding column stove and a clean twin-wall flue suit the volume of the space.

Common questions

Fire FX Atlas 1 Wood Burning Stove FAQs

Does the Fire FX Atlas 1 need a chimney?

No. Most Atlas installations run on a twin-wall insulated flue, with the visible flue becoming part of the look. It also works in a suitable lined chimney. Note the Atlas takes a 150mm flue, which we specify correctly on the survey.

What room suits the Atlas 1?

Open-plan spaces, extensions and conversions where the stove stands free of a wall. Its 5kW nominal output suits everyday living spaces, and we size it to your room volume on the free home survey.

Where do you store logs with the Atlas 1?

In the stove. The Atlas body includes concealed log storage in the base, so a basket of logs stays out of sight and the stove keeps its clean column lines.

Is the Atlas 1 DEFRA exempt?

Yes. The whole Atlas range is DEFRA exempt and Ecodesign compliant, so it can burn wood legally in smoke control areas, which we confirm for your address on the survey.
