Who the ACR Woodpecker WP5 Plus Multifuel Stove suits best

The WP5 Plus is the WP5 with more elbow room: a 490mm body giving a wider firebox and window, and a working range stretched to 2 to 8kW. That range is the quiet advantage, gentle enough for a mild evening, strong enough for a cold snap, which makes it a flexible choice for rooms that are hard to pin to one number.

We fitted one at Menston in Wharfedale with a natural limestone fireplace and a matt black granite hearth, and it is exactly that kind of setting the Plus suits.

From the survey

Installation notes for the ACR Woodpecker WP5 Plus Multifuel Stove

Same simple requirements as the WP5: a 125mm flue, a 12mm decorative hearth and a 40cm log capacity. The extra 70mm of width wants a slightly wider chamber, which we allow for when we measure. The airwash keeps the bigger window clear in normal use with properly dry wood.

An honest steer

How it compares with similar models

Over the standard WP5 you pay a little more for the wider window and the broader output range, a good trade in most rooms with the space for it. Over the WP4 models you gain genuine 5kW capability. If you want the same stove with integrated log storage, the WP5 QLS puts this firebox on a log store stand.

Proven on our own patch: the Menston install between Ilkley and Leeds, featured in our case studies, pairs the WP5 Plus with limestone and granite in classic Wharfedale style. DEFRA approved for smoke control areas and A+ rated.

Common questions

ACR Woodpecker WP5 Plus Multifuel Stove FAQs

What does the Plus add over the standard WP5?

A wider body with a bigger window and a broader working range of 2 to 8kW, against 2.5 to 7kW on the standard. The extra flexibility suits rooms that run cold in winter but only want a gentle fire in spring and autumn.

Have you fitted the WP5 Plus locally?

Yes. Our Menston case study, between Ilkley and Leeds, shows a WP5 Plus set in a natural limestone fireplace on a matt black granite hearth, a good picture of what this stove looks like fitted properly.

Is the WP5 Plus DEFRA exempt?

Yes, it is DEFRA approved for wood burning in smoke control areas, and A+ rated for efficiency, so city addresses in Leeds and York are no barrier.

Does the WP5 Plus need a big hearth?

Just the standard 12mm non-combustible decorative hearth, sized to Building Regulations, which we confirm for your room on the free home survey.
