A Mediterranean-style fireplace in Leeds

The brief from our Leeds clients was to create a Mediterranean-style fireplace that would reflect the character of a traditional Greek home. Originally from Greece and now living in Leeds, our clients wanted to bring a small touch of their birthplace into their home here in West Yorkshire.

We designed a bespoke fireplace using natural Cosmic Gold granite, incorporating a stylish log store beneath the wide Stovax Studio 1 woodburning cassette stove. The combination of the warm natural stone, generous proportions and inset stove creates a distinctive fireplace that blends traditional Mediterranean influences with the character of this early 1900s Leeds property.

The Stovax Studio 1 was installed into the existing masonry chimney breast, providing a clean, built-in finish while retaining the traditional proportions of the room. As part of the installation, we also fitted a stainless-steel chimney liner and an anti-downdraught cowl to the existing chimney pot, helping to protect the flue system from rain, wind and birds.

Your safety is always our priority, which is why we install the correct flue liner for every woodburning stove installation. The liner is connected directly to the stove and runs continuously through the chimney to the top of the chimney pot, creating a dedicated flue system for the appliance. This helps maintain the correct flue gases and temperatures as they travel through the chimney, reducing the risk of condensation and the formation of tar and creosote deposits within the masonry chimney. A correctly specified and professionally installed flue system, combined with regular sweeping and maintenance, is an important part of keeping your woodburning stove safe and operating efficiently.
