A wood burning stove installed as the focal point of a Yorkshire living room

Installation

From first enquiry to a warmer home

From the first home survey to the final HETAS certificate, here is exactly how we supply and install your stove, log burner or fireplace. We explain what is included at every stage, how your quotation is put together and what to expect throughout. No guesswork, no hidden extras and no sales pressure, just a straightforward process from start to finish.

A studio approach

Considered, never rushed

We carefully review every enquiry to make sure we can deliver the right outcome for your home. If needed, we will contact you to discuss your project in more detail before moving forward, so we fully understand what you are looking for.

We then arrange a home survey at a time that suits you, to talk through your new stove, fireplace or feature wall in the comfort of your own home. During the visit we bring samples, digital brochures and examples of previous installations, all presented clearly and without pressure, jargon or fuss.

Carl Finnell and the team then carry out the installation to a high standard, with full HETAS registration, so all work complies with UK safety regulations and meets the requirements of your home insurance. The result is never rushed, just carefully considered, a focal point designed for your home and made for you and your family to enjoy for years to come.

If you are comparing log burner costs before the survey, the dedicated log burner installation page explains the fit, flue and finish choices in one place.

Safety, built in

Swept before we start, with a CO alarm fitted

Chimney swept first

Before any work begins we arrange for the chimney to be professionally swept. It clears soot, tar and any bird nests, keeps the mess out of your room, and lets us inspect the flue properly before your new stove goes in.

Carbon monoxide alarm

Building Regulations require a carbon monoxide alarm for any solid fuel appliance, so we fit one as standard. It sits high on the wall, at least 150mm from the ceiling and between 1 and 3 metres from the stove, with a sealed ten-year battery so there is nothing for you to maintain.

By area

Wood burning stove installation by area

For Leeds customers we have a deeper guide to the city-specific installation questions: smoke-control rules, DEFRA-exempt stove choice, older terrace chimneys, liners and the HETAS sign-off. Read wood burning stove installation in Leeds before booking your survey.

For Harrogate customers, the focus is different: high-ceilinged period rooms, original chimneys, conservation-area sensitivity and the right stove output for spa-town houses and village homes. Read wood burning stove installation in Harrogate for the local process.

For York customers, the key checks are smoke-control status, older brick chimneys, listed or conservation-area sensitivity and the right stove for period townhouses, terraces and village homes. Read wood burning stove installation in York for the local process.

For Wetherby customers, the detail is often in the chimney, hearth and finish: Georgian market-town homes, limestone properties, conservation-area streets and newer executive houses without a usable flue. Read wood burning stove installation in Wetherby for the local process.

Cost and common questions

The questions we get asked most

How much does it cost to install a wood burning stove?

There is no single figure because it depends on the stove, whether the chimney needs lining or a twin-wall flue is required, and the hearth and chamber work involved. The honest answer comes after the survey, as one written quote with everything in it. That way you can compare like for like.

Can you install a stove if I do not have a chimney?

Yes. Where there is no chimney we fit a twin-wall insulated flue, either internally up through the roof or up an external wall. We confirm the best route on the survey.

Do I need Building Control or HETAS sign-off?

A solid-fuel installation has to meet Building Regulations. As Carl is Hetas registered he self-certifies the work and registers the install with Hetas who then notify Building Control for you, so you are covered without having to apply separately. This also means the work meets the requirements of your home insurance.

How long does an installation take?

A straightforward stove fit is often a day or two. Fireplace building, lining a difficult chimney or forming a new flue route can take longer. You will know the timescale before work starts.

How far do you travel?

We cover Leeds, Harrogate, Wetherby, York, Ripon, Malton, Thirsk and Scarborough. If you are just outside, ask us on the survey request and we will let you know.
